The concept for this painting comes from an eerie phenomenon in the rock world where an unusual number of famous musicians have died at the age of 27. This unfortunate group, commonly referred to as the “27 club” or “Forever 27 club”, is about 50 members strong, and what’s shocking is the number of legends that belong to it. I seem to remember a buzz about this club in the 90’s when Kurt Cobain left us, but the extraordinary coincidence never fully hit me until Amy Winehouse died at 27 a few years back and became it’s newest member.
In my tribute, here are Jimi Hendrix, Winehouse, Cobain, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin rubbing elbows in the V.I.P. section of a heavenly night club no one would want to gain admittance to. Check out some detail images below.
