Step Right Up, Sluggers!

Here’s my illustration for  the April issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids, a full page opener for their Baseball Preview 2018. It goes with the article “Step Right Up, Sluggers!” and it features the premiere home run hitters entering the 2018 MLB season. Leading the way, ringing the strongman bell is Yankees newly acquired slugger Giancarlo Stanton. Waiting on deck (left to right) is his teammate Aaron Judge, the Indians Edwin Encarnacion, the Dodgers Cody Bellinger, and the Rockies Nolan Arenado.

It was a pleasure working with designer Drew Dzwonkowski and Creative Director Beth Bugler on this. I had done several illos for Beth some years ago for SI Kids, so it was great to reunite and appear in the magazine again! Check out a close up detail below!

Scandal

My latest Must List illo for Entertainment Weekly is of the ABC political drama/soap/thriller Scandal. Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn as Olivia and Fitz, share some red wine and popcorn on the White House balcony to celebrate their final season. Thanks again, AD James Kim.

Supernatural

Here is a recent Must List illo for Entertainment Weekly for the fantasy/horror TV show Supernatural. This is another show I had to binge watch to capture the right flavor–shown here are the main characters, Sam and Dean Winchester played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, and the trench coat clad character between them is Castiel (I believe he’s an angel) played by Misha Collins. It was great working with AD James Kim again.

The Mayor of Cincinnati

For the March issue of Cincinnati Magazine, I was asked to illustrate Cincinnati  mayor John Cranley to accompany an article about him. The story covers his plans for Cincinnati and the region over the next four years, which includes job and economic growth, child poverty reduction, and a greener infrastructure among other things. The red bike he is riding through the city’s historic Over-the-Rhine district is part of a city bike share  program he has championed and also serves as a metaphor for his “on the go” and forward thinking persona. It was a pleasure working with Creative Director Megan Scherer on this.
