I was inspired to paint this portrait of Barry Manilow after catching him in an interview on TV. Whoah, he’s looking quite different these days! What struck me right off the bat were his two ‘new’ cherubic, round apple like cheeks. They surpass his trademark proboscis (nose that is) as his most dominant feature to me.
Working on this took me back to the mid/late 70’s when Manilow was at his peak. I was in junior high back then and oh boy, how totally uncool was it to like any of his songs? 30 plus years later, maybe it’s time I ‘fess up…Oh c’mon, tell me you don’t have a soft spot for “Mandy”!
